Privacy policy
Alap is a dating app for adults in India who are open about the shape of their relationships. For many of our members, being identified in the wrong place is not embarrassing — it is dangerous. This policy is written with that in mind, and it tries to be specific rather than reassuring.
Who we are
Alap is operated by UnitedScribePlus Pvt Ltd,REGISTERED ADDRESS, India. For anything in this policy, write toinfo@unitedsolutionsplus.in.
Who can use Alap
Alap is for adults aged 18 and over only. We ask for your date of birth to enforce that. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it.
What we collect
| What | Why we have it | Shared? |
|---|---|---|
| Your phone number | It is the only identity Alap has. You sign in with it; we do not ask for an email address or a real name. | No |
| A display name | What other members see. A first name or a nickname — it does not have to be your legal name. | No |
| Date of birth | To confirm you are 18 or over. Other members see your age, never the date. | No |
| Photographs | Your profile. Photos sent inside conversations are deleted automatically after 30 days. | No |
| Approximate location | To show you people who are near enough to meet. We store a coarse cluster and a rough distance, not a precise position. | No |
| Precise location | Only if you specifically allow it, and you can withdraw that at any time. Background location access is disabled in the app itself, so Alap cannot track you when it is closed. | No |
| Contacts | To hide you from people you already know. Your contacts never leave your phone. Your device converts each number into an unreadable digest and only those digests are uploaded — we never receive a phone number from your address book, and cannot reconstruct one. | No |
| Sexual orientation and relationship structure | They are the point of the product. This is sensitive information and we treat it that way. | No |
| Messages | To deliver your conversations. Stored on encrypted disks. Not end-to-end encrypted — we can read them, and sometimes have to. Staff access is logged, every time. | No |
| Verification selfie | A live selfie you take while signing up, so a moderator can check the person in your photos is you. Kept privately, never shown to members, and deleted as soon as the moderator decides, within 7 days at the most. | No |
| Early-access list | If you join the list on our website: your first name, phone number or email, and optionally your city and relationship style. Used only to tell you when Alap opens for you. Ask us and we delete it. | No |
| Device identifier | To enforce bans. Someone removed for harming another member should not return on a new number from the same phone. | No |
What we deliberately do not do.
- No advertising identifier. There is no advertising SDK in the app.
- No third-party analytics. We have not embedded anyone else's tracking.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers, advertisers or other apps.
- No background location. It is switched off at the level of the app's own permissions, not merely unused.
Who can see what
- Other members see your display name, age, photos, prompt answers, the profile fields you filled in, and roughly how far away you are.
- Nobody sees your phone number, your date of birth, your precise location, or your contact digests.
- Our staff can access message content only when responding to a safety report or a legal obligation, and every such access is recorded in an audit log.
Where your data lives
Your data stays in India. Alap's databases, file storage and application servers run in Azure's Central India region. Automated safety checking on photographs and messages runs in Azure's South India region, because that service is not offered from Central India — it is a different city, not a different country.
This website and our admin console are served through Cloudflare, but the app's own traffic, and the early-access form on this website, are not proxied, so your messages and photographs do not pass through a network hop outside India on their way to us. We chose that deliberately, and it costs us something: proxying would be cheaper and faster.
How long we keep things
- Photographs and files sent in chat: automatically deleted 30 days after sending.
- Your account data: for as long as your account exists.
- After you delete your account: most of it is erased. Five categories are retained deliberately, and we explain exactly which and why on theaccount deletion page. Confirm each statutory retention period with counsel before publishing.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you can:
- Ask what we hold about you and get a copy. There is no download button yet — email us and a person will put it together for you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Withdraw consent you previously gave — for precise location, for example. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
- Delete your account — see how.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapable of doing so yourself.
- Complain to us first, and to the Data Protection Board of India if we do not resolve it.
Write to info@unitedsolutionsplus.in for any of these. We will respond within 30 days.
Grievance Officer
Indian law requires us to publish the name and contact details of a Grievance Officer resident in India.
Name: APPOINT AND NAME A PERSON
Designation: Grievance Officer
Email: grievance@…
Address: REGISTERED ADDRESS
Complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days.
Security
Alap is not end-to-end encrypted, and we will not imply otherwise. Your messages sit on encrypted disks, which protects them if someone walks off with a hard drive — it does not mean we cannot read them. We can. We do so only when responding to a safety report or a legal obligation, and every such access is recorded in an audit log that we keep.
We are telling you this plainly because the alternative is letting you believe something convenient that is not true. An app that moderates harassment and removes intimate images posted without consent has to be able to see what was sent; those safety features and end-to-end encryption cannot both exist.
Photographs sit in private storage that is not publicly reachable. Access by our own staff is authenticated and logged. No system is perfect, and we will tell you plainly if something happens that affects you.
Changes to this policy
If we change it in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app rather than quietly updating this page.
